– Charles Stockbridge

Charles W. Stockbridge is a self-taught marine artist based in Mattapoisett, MA, formerly of Scituate, MA, with a deep appreciation for history and classical tradition. Influenced by the Hudson River School and 19th-century Luminist painters such as Martin Johnson Heade, Fitz Henry Lane, and Mauritz Frederick DeHaas, his work also reflects the impact of contemporary masters William Davis and Sergio Roffo—both of whom he has had the honor of painting alongside. Stockbridge’s representational art includes historical and harbor scenes, while his contemporary work captures the spirit of New England’s coastal life, focusing on waterfronts, classic sailing vessels, and luminous skies that reflect his spiritual inspiration. A former president of the Scituate Arts Association and director of the Front Street Art Gallery, his award-winning work is exhibited in galleries across Massachusetts and held in private collections in North America and Europe.
