SUMMARY:A Love of Nature Through Paint: Plein Air Paintings of Local Landscapes by Susan Fusco-Fazio
DESCRIPTION:    Join us in celebration of the works by Susan Fusco-Fazio\, on display May 31 – June 26 at the Dolphin Gallery at Hingham Public Library. The opening reception will take place Thursday\, June 5\, 5:30-7:30pm. \nStatement from Artist: \nMy studio is outdoors in nature. I paint local landscapes\, seascapes\, salt marshes\, and gardens on the South Shore and Cape Cod. To create a series of work\, I paint favorite scenes repeatedly in various weather conditions\, at different times of day\, throughout the seasons. Working tirelessly\, I aim to capture nuances of changing light and color\, the rhythm and essence of a particular scene on a given day\, of one moment in time. While painting in the garden\, I aim to capture the interconnections between flowers\, plants\, trees\, and shrubs. I always thank the landscape when I am finished. It is an honor and a great joy to paint in nature.

SUMMARY:Duxbury Art Complex Museum - Tom Smith: Relics
DESCRIPTION:Tom Smith: RELICS\nMay 11 – August 10\, 2025\nReception: May 11\, 2025\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm\n \nRELICS showcases biomorphic\, home-grown sculptures and derivative paintings. Grapevine\, tree\, and shrub cuttings discarded for the season are used to immerse viewers in a transformational refuge of stillness designed to restore the way we perceive Nature. \nAbstract artworks suspended above\, sprouting below\, and attaching to walls evoke plant forms that coalesce to produce a serene counterbalance to the bustle of life. As a result\, the sculptures and paintings respond to one another like living things\, compelling viewers to participate. \nRepeated patterns intrinsic to each piece invoke a sense of calm and order. Strategic placement creates shadows that enfold the gallery and viewers\, spurring curiosity and contemplation. As the show title implies\, RELICS hints at the amplitude of possibilities for resurrecting overlooked remnants while offering a new aesthetic value as art.

SUMMARY:Color Noise by Artist Dina Brennan
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition dates\nMay 9\, 2025 through June 14\, 2025 \nOpening Reception (Free and all are welcome)\nFriday\, May 9\, 2025\, 6-8 pm \nColor Noise—Artist Statement\nMy creativity was sparked by COVID\, of all things\, and what I coined my Quarantine Creative. I started taking out all of my art supplies and playing with watercolor landscapes which I called “colorscapes.”  The idea was letting the water move how it wanted against the page to create a loose and abstract visual of what I saw on my daily walks. I was also taking black and white photos every day\, which focused on line and texture. I like the idea of playing with lines that emulate horizons and layering values that create depth. Working abstractly is something that is new to me and I have had a lot of fun experimenting with new painting tools and different types of acrylic paints\, mediums and soluble artists’ crayons. \nIn my new body of work\, each piece is focused on limiting my color palette and pushing color relationships while maintaining a balance in tone and movement. With that movement\, I really want to explore what sound looks like\, particularly in nature. My love of color motivates me most in creating my art. I’m endlessly caught up in the colors found and created in nature\, no matter where I am in the world. Growing up and living in New England has been very influential because of the ever-changing seasons\, the continuous moving landscape found along the coast and the way the light makes everything seem different from day to day. The naturally occurring color combinations found while spending time outdoors inspires me to try and create those connections while painting. I am working to see if can visually depict sound within a landscape. Does sound have a color? Does color make a noise? \nI have had the pleasure of working with local artists at the Frame Center for twenty-five (25) years. Post-COVID\, the Frame Center began enhancing its showroom and gallery spaces. We decided to utilize the open space to showcase original artwork by local artists. Our goal is to create a safe space for the community to enjoy and celebrate their art without the pressures of a traditional gallery.  I find that I really enjoy pushing people to share and celebrate their work\, which in turn has inspired me to try new things in my own artwork and put myself out there in a way that I never have before. \nMy very first solo show will be hanging next spring at the James Library in historic Norwell Center. The James Library and Center for the Arts is a non-profit organization offering programs in music\, art and literature. My new work\, which focuses on playing with sound and color\, will be featured in their art gallery in May\, 2025.

SUMMARY:Celebrating Sano Gofu: 50th Anniversary of Sho-fu-an
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Sano Gofu:\n50th Anniversary of Sho-fu-an\n(Wind in the Pines Tea Hut)\nThrough August 31\, 2025\nReception: May 11\, 2025\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm\n \nThis exhibit displays the paintings\, sketches\, and architectural plans created by Japanese artist and designer\, Sano Gofu. Gofu also designed the museum’s tea hut\, Wind in the Pines (Shofuan). \nGofu created numerous watercolors of botanicals and locations in Japan\, as well as painted fans\, scrolls\, and screens. A student of the famous nihonga painter SeihōTakeuchi\, Gofu graduated from the Kyoto Municipal Arts and Crafts College. He became a sumi-e painter: a Zen painting technique that focuses on nature using ink washes\, ink brush and watercolor paint. \nThrough the years\, many of these works were given to the Weyerhaeusers and the Art Complex Museum’s collection now contains more than 70 objects by Gofu. \nThe exhibit includes about half of the paintings by Sano Gofu in the collection\, as well as photographs and drawings of the tea hut\, which demonstrate his design process. A painted screen that Gofu created is on view in the Founders Room. \nMuseum co-founders Carl and Edith Weyerhaeuser became friends with many of the consultants who guided them in amassing over 8\,000 objects that make up the Art Complex Museum collection. Kojiro Tomita\, Curator of Asian Arts for the Museum of Fine Arts Boston\, was among the first advisors the Weyerhaeusers got to know. Tomita helped to guide their selections of Asian arts and ceramics.

SUMMARY:Monotype Guild of New England: 40 Years of Unique Prints
DESCRIPTION:Monotype Guild of New England:\n40 Years of Unique Prints\n(40th Anniversary Exhibit\, Sixth National Juried Exhibition)\nThrough August 31\, 2025\nReception: May 11\, 2025\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm\n \n\nFor four decades\, the Monotype Guild of New England has championed the art of the\nmonotype and monoprint\, fostering a vibrant community of printmakers dedicated to the\nexpressive potential of one-of-a-kind prints. MGNE celebrates this milestone with\nMonotype Guild of New England: 40 Years of Unique Prints\, a national juried exhibition\nshowcasing the breadth and innovation of contemporary printmaking. \nFeaturing works from 73 artists across the United States\, this exhibition highlights the\ndynamic and ever-evolving nature of monotype—a process that embraces spontaneity\,\nexperimentation\, and individuality. Unlike traditional printmaking techniques that\nproduce multiples\, monotypes and monoprints yield singular impressions\, making each\nprint a distinctive exploration of form\, texture\, and color. This exhibition exemplifies how\ntraditional printmaking techniques can be reimagined in a contemporary context. \nInternationally acclaimed printmaker\, Karen Kunc’s expertise and artistic vision make\nher uniquely qualified as juror for this exhibition. She selected the prints in the exhibition\nfrom 645 works submitted by 238 artists. Kunc is Cather Professor Emerita of the\nUniversity of Nebraska-Lincoln where she taught from 1983-2020. Her many accolades\ninclude a Guggenheim Fellowship\, Fulbright Scholar Awards to Finland and\nBangladesh\, two NEA/MAAA awards\, and the 2007 Southern Graphics Council\nInternational Printmaker Emeritus Award.

The opening reception will take place Friday\, April 18\, 5:30-7:30pm at Jeanne Horan Gallery at Ventress Memorial Library \nAbout the Artist: Deborah comes from a family of artists. Her mother and grandmother were accomplished watercolorists and teachers. As a child\, she drew constantly and copied her grandmother’s work. On the paternal side Deborah is related to artists William Starbuck Macy\, Wendell Macy\, and William Ferdinand Macy. \nDeborah studied sculpture from the live model in clay\, plaster\, wax and bronze at Rhode Island School of Design under sculptor Robert Lamb\, and she obtained a Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts\, though she credits her progress to her determination to learn the human face and form by holding her own studio life classes. A guiding light has been the teaching advice in her well-loved Charles Merrill Mount biography of John Singer Sargent. \nDeborah’s association with The Portrait Society and her love of Nelson Shanks’ work led her in 2018 to Studio Incamminati in Pennsylvania for a workshop with artists Jeff Hein\, Ricky Mujica and Natalie Italiano. Deborah was featured on the cover of SOCO Magazine that year. Since then\, online study from classically trained artists Cesar Santos and Scott Waddell from The Angel Academy and The Florence Academy of Art respectively has been an inspiration. \nDeborah’s figurative paintings have a uniquely feminine viewpoint. She sets up her models with lush fabrics in vintage costumes\, creating a mood of repose and reflection. \nDeborah has shown widely across New England\, with portraits and gallery pieces in private collections. She has paintings in the permanent collection of The Old Dartmouth Society Whaling Museum and over a dozen portraits in the permanent collection The City of New Bedford. \nDeborah is a juried member of The Salmagundi Club\, NY and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club\, NY.  She is an Elected Member of the American Artists Professional League.  She is also a member of the North River Arts Society\, MA and the Marion Art Center\, MA.  Deborah has won numerous awards from the Cape Cod Art Center\, Cape Cod Cultural Center\, North River Arts Society\, and\, from the CLWAC at The Salmagundi Club

SUMMARY:"Elements of Curiosity" by Kelly Russo
DESCRIPTION:True Grit Art Gallery is excited to announce Elements of Curiosity\, a solo exhibit by local abstract artist Kelly Russo\, running from April 12 to May 3\, 2025. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday\, April 12\, from 6-8pm at 38 Center St\, Middleboro\, Massachusetts\, where guests can meet Kelly\, enjoy adult refreshments\, and experience her vibrant\, thought-provoking work.\nKelly Russo\, a Scituate-based artist born and raised in the Boston area\, captures the dynamic balance of chaos and order in her abstract paintings. With a BFA and Masters in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art\, Kelly is a Gallery Artist at South Shore Art Center\, a Juried Artist Member at The Copley Society of Art\, and a Signature Member of the National Association of Women Artists. Her work\, as she describes\, “organizes chaos\,” reflecting the joys and trials of life as a mom and artist navigating a complex world. Her bold shapes and fluid layers—conversations of color and space—reveal and conceal emotions\, mirroring the daily choices we make about what to show and what to hide.\nAt the opening reception\, attendees will have the chance to chat with Kelly about her creative process and the stories behind her pieces. Adult refreshments will be served\, creating a relaxed atmosphere to explore the exhibit and connect with Middleboro’s art community. Elements of Curiosity invites viewers to engage with abstract art’s legacy\, from its historical roots to its modern expressions\, as highlighted inTrue Grit Art Gab!’s recent podcast episode\, “Demystifying the Abstract.”

SUMMARY:The Feeling of Color
DESCRIPTION: Join us in celebration of the works by Heather Kinney\, on display March 29 – May 1 at the Dolphin Gallery at Hingham Public Library. The opening reception will take place Thursday\, April 3\, 5:30-7:30pm. \nStatement from Artist: I am a visual artist\, lover of color and a painter. I create art to share my experience of the world around me and because it brings me joy. My paintings\, like me\, tend to be vibrant\, happy and engaging. I find abstraction to be a great space to express emotions and to connect with others. Experiencing art with others strengthens our connections\, helping to create a vibe of understanding\, respect and inclusion\, the world I want to live in. \nStarts Saturday\, March 29\, 2025 and show until Thursday\, May 01\, 2025\nat the Dolphin Gallery in the Hingham Public Library\n
