SUMMARY:Opening Reception for "In Sunlight"
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebration of the works by Joreen Benbenek\, on display October 5 – November 6\, 2025 at the Dolphin Gallery\, located in the Hingham Library. Opening Reception: Thursday\, October 9\, 5:30-7:00 pm \n\n\n\nArtist Statement: Capturing fleeting moments of majesty and beauty of the illuminated landscape have been a lifelong motivation and inspiration for me. I strive to capture in my landscape paintings not only a unique sense of place but also the emotional experience of the illusive and ever- changing effects of light that can only be experienced by the direct observation of nature. I can’t remember a time when I was not compelled to create art. As a child\, my greatest joy and love was sketching\, painting and experimenting with different art mediums\, trying to capture the essence of the world around me. I pursued my passion in college\, earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting\, which I supplemented with training from Boston area painters whose work I admired\, including Alfred Chadbourn\, Charles Sovek\, and painting master\, Michael Keane. My chosen medium has always been oils\, whether working on location “en plein air”\, observing nature firsthand\, or doing larger work from on location studies in my studio\, my goal and motivation is always the same\, to capture the glorious and fleeting dramatic moments of light and shadow on landscapes and cityscapes. I enhance and revise my color values\, shapes and tones until my painting reflects the initial impact and mood of the scene in front of me. I want the viewer to feel as if they can walk into my paintings\, stand beside me and experience the same joy and wonder at the beauty of our natural world. I am inspired daily to capture with paint and canvas the beauty\, drama and luminosity of the world around me.

SUMMARY:A Love of Nature Through Paint: Plein Air Paintings of Local Landscapes by Susan Fusco-Fazio
DESCRIPTION:    Join us in celebration of the works by Susan Fusco-Fazio\, on display May 31 – June 26 at the Dolphin Gallery at Hingham Public Library. The opening reception will take place Thursday\, June 5\, 5:30-7:30pm. \nStatement from Artist: \nMy studio is outdoors in nature. I paint local landscapes\, seascapes\, salt marshes\, and gardens on the South Shore and Cape Cod. To create a series of work\, I paint favorite scenes repeatedly in various weather conditions\, at different times of day\, throughout the seasons. Working tirelessly\, I aim to capture nuances of changing light and color\, the rhythm and essence of a particular scene on a given day\, of one moment in time. While painting in the garden\, I aim to capture the interconnections between flowers\, plants\, trees\, and shrubs. I always thank the landscape when I am finished. It is an honor and a great joy to paint in nature.

SUMMARY:Water Music Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:North River Arts presents\nWater Music\nby Joan Appel\nJoin us in celebrating Joan Appel at the Dolphin Gallery in Hingham\, on display November 2 – December 5. All are welcome to the opening reception on Friday\, November 7\, 5:30-7:30PM. \nI am both a professional musician and artist.  Although trained as a classical musician\, art-making has always been a very important part of my life.  I have created art alongside my university and conservatory study as well as when I was performing in the United States and Europe. I feel that the execution of a painting becomes a personal performance\, different from interpreting someone else’s poetry in song as I am expressing my own poetry in color\, shape and texture. Oil painting and monotype printmaking remain my primary form of artistic expression. \nThese pieces in the exhibit Water Music bridge my love of sailing\, the seashore\, (and all things watery) and my love of music and performance. \nI am a prize-winning  exhibitor with various galleries and art associations throughout the U.S. Some of my training has been at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts\, DeCordova Museum\, Paier College of Art and I am a member of\, (to name a few) the National Association of Women Artists\, American Impressionist Society\, Monotype Guild of New England\, North River Arts Society and I am a gallery artist at the Cape Cod Art Center. \nAs a musician\, I have degrees from Syracuse University\, the New England Conservatory  and Lesley University. I performed as a coloratura soprano soloist with choruses in the New England area\, France and Switzerland.  Presently I am the Music Minster at the Linden Ponds Community Church and teach piano to adults and children in my Marshfield MA studio. \n

SUMMARY:Water Music - Joan Appel

SUMMARY:John Cook: Another Lifetime Fine Art
DESCRIPTION:John Cook: Another Lifetime Fine Art\nOn Display from August 10 – September 5\nJoin the artist for a reception in the Gallery on Thursday\, August 15 from 6:30-8:30. \nThis exhibition focuses on the various style and composition changes that the artist\, John Cook has encountered since learning to paint in early 2017. His style of painting is reminiscent of a combination of the romantic period and the realism period styles. Both styles are late 19th century genres\, that captured subjects and nature in their natural settings as they actually appear. Most of his works are created using oils on canvas\, however\, an occasional piece composed in acrylics comes along. \nAlthough Mr. Cook does make attempts to capture different subject matter\, most of his works are studies of the sea as the sea is where his heart finds solace. It is a constantly changing element\, capable of showing darkened merciless rage in one moment and in the next\, calm seas displaying beautiful hues of emerald and turquoise. His desire is that you find enjoyment in these pieces and perhaps they would draw you in\, giving you a glimpse of how he views our world. \nAbout the Artist:\nJohn L. Cook (b. 1957 Ammersee\, Germany) received his Associate Degree in Fine Arts Visual Arts from Quincy College\, Quincy\, Massachusetts in May 2018. He received his Bachelor of Art Degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston\, in May 2020 with concentrations in studio art\, painting and drawing. \nMr. Cook retired from the United States Army in July 2016 after 28 years of service where he served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. Upon retiring\, while studying at Quincy College\, he realized a talent for creating art through painting and drawing. He has since displayed his works at the Hull Art Association Gallery in Hull\, Massachusetts. Realizing that displaying and selling his works was not enough\, he has created a customer based in- home paint party business. He brings paint nights to the customer where they and small groups of their friends and associates can experience hands-on painting as he shares the gift of art with those who might not have ever been exposed to creating art. John typically creates art 2 – 7 hours a day. \nHis latest venture is that of a live wedding painter on the south shore of Massachusetts\, capturing couple’s special moments on their wedding day as they happen\, on canvas using both oil and acrylic paints. \nMr. Cook a member of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston\, Massachusetts.
