SUMMARY:"Passage" Nora Valdez
DESCRIPTION:A new installation on the museum grounds\, “Passage” includes four pieces depicting crucial moments in a journey. \nOriginally from Argentina\, Valdez trained in both Italy and Spain before settling in Boston. Her sculptures represent the nature of change\, life of the individual\, and the forces that wear upon the human soul. Her immigrant-themed work describes the challenge of those caught within unfamiliar systems who seek the security of home. \nThese pieces will be on display from September 17th till September of 2025\, with a special reception on the 12th of November from 1 to 4pm \nShown: Nora Valdez\, Voiceless #1\, (Detail)\,  2019\, Indiana limestone

SUMMARY:"Unsettled Pieces"
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Duxbury Art Complex Museum to view\n“Unsettled Pieces”\n  \nAugust 20 – November 5\, 2023\nReception: August 20\, 2023\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm\nThree artists have chosen mosaic as the common language to explore issues affecting the planet\, each in her own style.\nDebora Aldo uses her signature material—pebbles—along with up-cycled contemporary materials\, to infuse her lines with meaning. Nikki Sullivan and Anabella Wewer both use classical andamento to form their lines\, but Nikki often uses a large found object as her focal point\, while Anabella breaks down uncommon materials into regularly sized tesserae.\nEach artist has embraced one or more topics within our changing world\, and brought to it the unusual and uncommon set of skills that it takes to create a mosaic.\n\n*Closed Mondays\, Tuesdays\, and Major Holidays – Open Wednesday through Sunday from 1pm to 4pm*

SUMMARY:Duxbury Art Complex presents "TAG"
DESCRIPTION:TAG: Contemporary Painters\n\nApril 2 – August 27\, 2023\nReception: May 21\, 2023\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm \nFor this exhibition\, we began by asking artist Carol O’Malia to be in the show. She then asked another painter to be in the show. That painter then chose another painter\, etc. Hence the name “Tag.”  The artists picked friends\, studio mates\, former classmates\, and other artists whose work they admired. Like a game of tag there were not many rules\, other than being based in New England\, and even that rule was bent. \nThe result is an organically grown exhibition with a wide-ranging view.  Artists in the exhibition include Angela Godoy\, Kevin Kearns\, Chil Mott\, Richard Neal\, Carol O’Malia\, Tula Telfair\, Peter Waite\, and Gina Volpe. \nShown: Chil Mott\, Untitled #17\, from the Sill Life series\, 2018\, oil on board
