SUMMARY:Opening Reception for "A Timeless World: Figures and Faces"
DESCRIPTION:   Join us in celebration of the works by Deborah Macy\, on display April 12 – May 31\, 2025 at the Ventress Memorial Library. The opening reception will take place Friday\, April 18\, 5:30-7:30pm at Jeanne Horan Gallery at Ventress Memorial Library \nAbout the Artist: Deborah comes from a family of artists. Her mother and grandmother were accomplished watercolorists and teachers. As a child\, she drew constantly and copied her grandmother’s work. On the paternal side Deborah is related to artists William Starbuck Macy\, Wendell Macy\, and William Ferdinand Macy. \nDeborah studied sculpture from the live model in clay\, plaster\, wax and bronze at Rhode Island School of Design under sculptor Robert Lamb\, and she obtained a Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts\, though she credits her progress to her determination to learn the human face and form by holding her own studio life classes. A guiding light has been the teaching advice in her well-loved Charles Merrill Mount biography of John Singer Sargent. \nDeborah’s association with The Portrait Society and her love of Nelson Shanks’ work led her in 2018 to Studio Incamminati in Pennsylvania for a workshop with artists Jeff Hein\, Ricky Mujica and Natalie Italiano. Deborah was featured on the cover of SOCO Magazine that year. Since then\, online study from classically trained artists Cesar Santos and Scott Waddell from The Angel Academy and The Florence Academy of Art respectively has been an inspiration. \nDeborah’s figurative paintings have a uniquely feminine viewpoint. She sets up her models with lush fabrics in vintage costumes\, creating a mood of repose and reflection. \nDeborah has shown widely across New England\, with portraits and gallery pieces in private collections. She has paintings in the permanent collection of The Old Dartmouth Society Whaling Museum and over a dozen portraits in the permanent collection The City of New Bedford. \nDeborah is a juried member of The Salmagundi Club\, NY and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club\, NY.  She is an Elected Member of the American Artists Professional League.  She is also a member of the North River Arts Society\, MA and the Marion Art Center\, MA.  Deborah has won numerous awards from the Cape Cod Art Center\, Cape Cod Cultural Center\, North River Arts Society\, and\, from the CLWAC at The Salmagundi Club

SUMMARY:"The Flowers of Evil"
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebration of the works by Scott Ketcham\, on display January 4 – February 22 at the Ventress Memorial Library. The opening reception will take place Friday\, January 10\, 5:30-7:30pm. \nStatement from Artist: My recent oil paintings are freely inspired by 19th-century French poet Charles Baudelaire’s radical verses from his revolutionary collection\, Les Fleur du Mal. I find stimulation in Baudelaire’s lush\, seductive language conjuring jarring juxtapositions of naïveté and corruption\, indulgence and malaise\, vitality and melancholy. Through these works I have endeavored\, like Baudelaire\, to extract beauty from evil. These are not pretty florals; they are influenced by the mood that pervades these poems– infatuating beauty mixed with quiet despair. All titles of paintings in this exhibit are quotations from Baudelaire’s poems.  \nBiography: Scott Ketcham is a figurative painter with a studio at the Sandpaper Factory in Rockland\, MA. He was a student of William Schultz\, Clement Micarelli\, and many others; he holds a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College and a Master of Fine Arts from Johnson State University. He is a Professor of Visual Arts at Massasoit Community College. His work can be viewed at www.scottketcham.com andwww.instagram.com/scottwketcham

SUMMARY:Summers in Maine
DESCRIPTION:North River Arts presents\nSummers in Maine\n   Following in the plein air tradition of painting the landscape from life\, a group of South Shore artists gather together every summer at a historic Back Cove farmhouse in Maine. In their own individual styles\, they each capture the unique beauty of the Maine landscape.  \nReflecting their varied careers as art instructors\, painters and designers\, they offer their own unique perspective and vision to their interpretation of Mid-Coast Maine\, from the dramatic shores of Pemaquid Point to the light filled beauty of Christmas Cove. The camaraderie of painting together combined with their mutual love of the immediacy of the painting outdoors\, on location\, keeps this group of painters returning year after year to this much-loved location along the Maine Coast. \nOpening Reception: Friday\, October 11\, 5:30-7:30pm

SUMMARY:Ann Musto & Students Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Ann Musto & Students Exhibit 7/1/24 – 8/17/24\n ARTIST STATEMENT: “ A painting can sometimes say what cannot be put into words.” It is an honor to be able to say I work in the arts! I am a plain air and studio oil painter for over twenty years. My interest lies in working to capture the beauty of what we see in light and color\, and although I am primarily a pallet knife painter when outdoors\, I use those color studies and paintings to inform my decisions and creativity in the studio when working on larger pieces\, portraits\, and still life. Currently I have completed my studies at the Academy of Realist Art in Boston\, a traditional atelier.\nAnn Musto & Students Reception\nFRIDAY\, JULY 12\n5:30—7:30 PM\nJeanne Horan Art Gallery\nVentress Memorial Library\n15 Library Plaza\, Marshfield\, MA\, 02050
